School History
A Child’s Garden Montessori opened in the fall of 1983 with eight children. Enrollment continued to steadily increase to a maximum of 100 students and a waiting list. Our commitment and experience for almost three decades with the Montessori philosophy allows us to provide an outstanding education for all children in a family-oriented environment regardless of age, socioeconomic status, or ethnic origin. Our facility consists of five classrooms with each classroom opening to its own covered patio, and two playgrounds for age-appropriate play.
We are affiliated with the American Montessori Society, the largest Montessori organization in the world, founded in 1960 by Dr. Nancy McCormick Rambusch. Our school supports the “Whole Child” approach of AMS, to help each child reach their full potential in all areas of life. We are also affiliated with the North American Montessori Teachers’ Association (NAMTA). We continuously feed and share our expertise by training our staff and staying abreast of educational resources; we also, host workshops to parents and provide consulting to newly formed Montessori schools.
A Child’s Garden received its name from A Child’s Garden of Verses, a book of poems written for children by Robert Louis Stevenson. This poem reflects the nature of our school:
The HEART of a child is a garden
Where any seed may grow.
The soil of the heart is fertile
It nourishes whatever we sow.
We are given this GARDEN to care for
A pure and unspotted mind.
Let not the young sprouts of learning
With weeds be intertwined.
But scatter GOOD seed in the garden
And time will do the rest.
The green buds of GOODNESS will blossom
And thus will our work be blessed.
